The Literary Society of Northwest School of Medicine (NWSM) hosted a vibrant one-day event, “Mehfil e Sukhan,” on 14 April 2025. The event showcased the richness of Pakistani culture, poetry, and literary traditions across English, Urdu, and Pashto languages. Held in the college’s auditorium, the program drew applause for its creative performances and esteemed guests.
Dr. Akif Ullah, Director of Irnum Cancer Hospital Peshawar, graced the occasion as Chief Guest, commending the students’ efforts to bridge linguistic and cultural divides through art. Syeda Mahdokht, General Secretary Literary Society, officially starts the event and welcomes the esteemed guests and the event’s audience. The Pashto section was honored by the presence of renowned poet and scholar Aziz Manerwal, Pashto Poet & Writer, who emphasized the importance of preserving regional languages. Malik Abdul Latif Awan, CEO of Alliance Healthcare Private Limited, attended as the Guest of Honor, praising NWSM’s commitment to fostering literary and cultural dialogue.
Students captivated the audience with a dynamic mix of dramatic readings, emotionally charged acts, and humorous skits. The English segment featured contemporary interpretations of classic literature, while the Urdu segment highlighted poetic recitations (mushaira-style) and theatrical displays of the subcontinent’s literary history.
The Literary Society declared the event a triumph, reinforcing NWSM’s role as a hub for artistic and intellectual exchange. Plans are already underway to expand next year’s edition, with hopes to include even more regional languages and interactive workshops.
The event concluded with Dr. Almas Fasih Khattak, Staff Advisor of the Literary Society, presenting shields to the chief guests on behalf of the NWSM administration, honoring their contributions to literature and culture.
