The Med School Brain Hack: Master More in Less Time
The Northwest Students Research Society (NSRS) at Northwest School of Medicine (NWSM) successfully hosted an intensive workshop titled “The Med School Brain Hack: Master More in Less Time.” While the session drew significant interest from younger aspiring medics—including active participation from students of Beaconhouse School, The City School, and Bloomfield Hall School (BHS)—it was specifically designed for medical students to tackle the rigorous demands of their curriculum.
Key Highlights of the Workshop:
Diverse Participation: The event bridged the gap between pre-medical students and current NWSM medical students, fostering a collaborative environment for academic growth.
Expert Guidance: Led by Prof. Dr. Waqar Ali, the workshop moved beyond standard study tips, diving deep into the neuroscience of memory and retention.
Evidence-Based Strategies: Participants learned how to move away from “rote memorization” and apply proven techniques like Active Recall and Spaced Repetition.
Tech-Driven Learning: A major focus was placed on leveraging AI and smart tools like NotebookLM to synthesize complex medical lectures into high-yield, manageable resources.
Efficiency & Wellness: Students explored how to design realistic weekly study plans that balance exam-focused mastery with long-term knowledge retention, aimed at reducing burnout.
The workshop concluded with an interactive Q&A where medical students shared their personal challenges and received tailored advice on optimizing their learning efficiency.
